While a Diyarbakır court rejected an objection to the arrest of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş on Monday, in the early hours of the same day a lawyer who had visited Demirtaş in prison and received a message from him that appeared in the German media was detained in İstanbul.

Lawyer and a politician at the HDP İstanbul branch Levent Pişkin was detained at his home and reportedly taken to Bursa. Some of his personal belongings were also confiscated by the police.

Demirtaş was arrested along with Co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ and eight other HDP deputies on Nov. 4. Aysel Tuğluk, a lawyer representing the politician, said last week that Demirtaş is being kept in solitary confinement in Edirne Prison for the purpose of inflicting psychological torture.
