Fifty-eight percent of participants in an opinion survey said their financial situation is worse than it was last year, the Cumhuriyet newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The poll, conducted on 1,126 people across 12 provinces by the Gezici polling company, found that 85 percent described their financial outlook as either “mediocre,” “bad” or “very bad” and that income inequality has grown.

Economy and unemployment were pointed out by participants as Turkey’s biggest problems.

The poll also included questions on the Turkish government’s handling of the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, with 51.1 percent finding the government to be successful in managing the situation, while only 30 percent expressed positive opinions on the government’s economic and employment-related policies.

As regards the municipalities’ response to the pandemic, 32.2 percent said they found them successful and 46.6 percent partially successful.
