Turkish Consulate General in Zurich attacked with Molotov cocktail: report

Must read

Turkey’s consulate general in the Swiss city of Zurich was attacked with a Molotov cocktail in the early hours of Monday, the Turkish consul general said, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

Asiye Nurcan İpekçi told Anadolu that the attack occurred at 2:51 a.m. local time but said no one was hurt and that the building suffered no damage.

She added that there were previous attacks on the consulate but said no group had claimed responsibility for this latest one.

The police arrested three men aged 17, 18 and 19 over the attack, she said, but had no further details about them.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, the Turkish Consulate General has suffered six attacks.

In May 2017 people wearing balaclavas vandalized the consulate with paint and wrote “Kill Erdoğan” on a nearby bus stop and building, referring to Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In January 2018 an official car at the consulate was targeted by an arson attack.
