Turkey’s mega-city of İstanbul has been declared the second most congested city in the world by a transportation data analysis company, BBC Turkish service reported on Tuesday.

INRIX’s 2019 report indicated that an average driver on İstanbul’s roads spent six-and-a-half days (nearly 160 hours) stuck in traffic last year.

Moscow took first place followed by Bogota, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, London, Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Saint Petersburg and Rome after İstanbul.

Turkey’s capital of Ankara comes in 11th and İzmir takes the 12th place, the report said.

According to Turkey’s national statistics institute, there are over 4 million registered vehicles in İstanbul, a number that has quadrupled since 2000.
