The Umut (Hope) Foundation, a leading advocate of gun control in Turkey, has revealed that there are 20 million guns in the country and that 85 percent of them, around 17 million, are unlicensed, according to a story in the Cumhuriyet daily on Sunday.
According to data from the foundation, Turkey ranks 27th among all the countries in the world in gun ownership, with one out of every four people having a gun.
The rate of gun ownership has increased by 10 times in Turkey over the past decade.
