Turkey sends 300 troops to reinforce operations in Syria: state media

Must read

Turkey has deployed 300 commandos to northern Syria to reinforce Operation Euphrates Shield aimed at pushing Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Kurdish fighters from its border with Syria, Turkish state media reported on Thursday.

According to the Anadolu news agency, some 300 “blue beret” commandos from Denizli’s 11th Commando Brigade were taken by bus to the Çardak military airport in Denizli for their deployment to northern Syria.

It was not clear where in northern Syria they would be deployed.

In late August Turkey launched Euphrates Shield in northern Syria, using its armor and air power to help Free Syrian Army fighters take territory near the border held by ISIL.
