In custody for about two months, İbrahim Günenç, a member of Turkey’s Council of State, has said he hadn’t seen another human being for weeks until former Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Hüseyin Aygün recently visited him.
Detained as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement on July 29, Günenç said Aygün was the only person he had seen in at least a fortnight.
“Council of State member İbrahim Günenç is in his 16th day of isolation in Sincan Prison. He hugged me today and cried, ‘This is the first time I have seen a human being in weeks’,” Aygün tweeted on Sunday.
Aygün also said detained judges are held in solitary confinement.
Allegations of ill-treatment and torture of detainees have increased following a July 15 coup attempt. Amnesty International had earlier said it had gathered credible evidence in support of those allegations.
