Turkey will dispatch a delegation to Syria to explore electricity cooperation as part of efforts to rebuild the country following the ouster of former President Bashar al-Assad, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced on Tuesday, Turkish media reported.
The aim is to address Syria’s severe electricity shortages, beginning with an assessment of the energy infrastructure and exploring solutions for power transmission.
Turkey recently reopened its embassy in Damascus and held high-level meetings with Syria’s de-facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa after supporting opposition forces during the 13-year civil war that culminated in Assad’s ouster this month.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pledged Turkish support for Syria’s reconstruction, emphasizing energy development as a priority.
Turkey already supplies power to areas of northern Syria under its control since launching military operations there in 2016.
Bayraktar said the delegation would examine Syria’s electricity grid and explore opportunities for Turkish companies to assist in energy restoration.
Lebanon has also sought Turkey’s help to alleviate its energy crisis.
