10 Turkish citizens accused of ISIL links arrested in Syria

Must read

Ten Turkish citizens accused of membership in the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have been arrested in Syria, Turkish state media reported on Saturday.

The suspects, who were wanted on INTERPOL Red Notices, were detained in a joint operation by Turkish and Syrian intelligence services, the state-run Anadolu news agency and state broadcaster TRT reported.

Nine of the 10 suspects were brought back to Turkey, the reports said.

One suspect is accused of links to the perpetrators of the October 2015 bombing at Ankara’s main train station, which killed more than 100 people in one of the deadliest attacks in modern Turkish history.

Two others are accused of planning or taking part in attacks targeting Turkish soldiers deployed in northern Syria.

Turkish state media said the 10 suspects were believed to have joined ISIL between 2014 and 2017.

The reports did not say when or where in Syria the suspects were detained.
