Turkey’s Togg partners with unit of Chinese battery giant to develop new EV platform

Turkey’s electric vehicle maker Togg has signed a strategic partnership with Contemporary Amperex Intelligent Technology, a Shanghai-based unit of Chinese battery giant CATL, to jointly develop a chassis platform for Togg’s new B-segment electric vehicle family, according to a statement from CATL.

A chassis platform is the basic structure of a vehicle, including the frame and key systems such as the battery, electric motors and control units, on which different models can be built.

The agreement marks the first overseas passenger vehicle project for CATL’s electric vehicle chassis platform, known as Bedrock or Panshi, according to the company.

Under the deal, CAIT, CATL’s skateboard chassis arm, will provide its Bedrock Chassis technology and engineering expertise, while Togg will help shape the vehicle design, user experience, product requirements and digital systems.

The companies will jointly develop the platform for three B-segment models, a category that generally refers to small cars such as compact hatchbacks and crossovers.

The first model developed under the partnership is expected to enter mass production in 2027.

The Bedrock platform is a so-called skateboard chassis, a flat electric vehicle base that places major components in the lower part of the vehicle. Automakers can build different bodies on top of the same base, making it easier and faster to develop new electric models.

Robin Zeng, chairman and CEO of CATL, said the partnership was an important step in the global expansion of the Bedrock Chassis after its rollout in China.

“It will also serve as a benchmark project in the field of integrated intelligent chassis, strengthening our global partnerships, accelerating electrification and supporting the transition to low-carbon mobility in emerging new energy markets,” Zeng said.

Togg Chairman Fuat Tosyalı said the company was not adopting a ready-made solution but becoming part of the development process to better respond to user needs and help develop Turkey’s mobility ecosystem.

“Rather than adopting a ready-made solution, we are becoming part of the entire development process, responding more effectively to user needs while also contributing to the development of this ecosystem in our country,” Tosyalı said.

CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery maker, launched the Bedrock chassis in late 2024 as part of an effort to expand beyond batteries into broader EV technology.

CAIT said the Bedrock Chassis achieved mass production in China in 2024, marking what it described as the world’s first deployment of an integrated intelligent chassis offered as a standalone product to passenger vehicle brands.

The partnership with Togg is expected to support the development of electric vehicles tailored to Turkish consumers and potentially other regional markets, including Europe, while strengthening the local EV supply chain.

The agreement comes as Togg seeks to expand its model range and consolidate its position in Turkey’s fast-growing EV market.

Togg led Turkey’s electric vehicle market in 2025, with Turkish reports citing Automotive Distributors’ and Mobility Association data saying the company sold 39,020 vehicles across its T10X and T10F models.

Togg launched its first model as Turkey’s first domestically produced electric car in 2023.

President Erdoğan poses with Turkey’s domestically produced car prototype.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has sought to make the carmaker a point of national pride, with the T10X model launched in March 2023 right before the country’s presidential election.

The company has since presented the T10F, a fastback model, as part of its plan to build a broader smart mobility ecosystem rather than operate only as a traditional carmaker.
