Turkish FM says Iran’s Gulf strikes are ‘wrong strategy’

Must read

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Tuesday that Iran’s retaliatory attacks across Gulf states are a “wrong strategy” that raises the risk of a wider regional conflict.

In a televised interview on state-run Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), Fidan said Iran is bombing Arab countries “without making any distinction,” listing Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

He said the attacks increase risk across the region and are also a mistake from Iran’s perspective.

The comments came as fighting that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran has widened across the Middle East, with Iran launching missiles and drones and Israel carrying out further strikes.

Turkey, which borders Iran and is a member of NATO, has urged a return to diplomacy and has held talks with multiple governments about steps to stop the attacks.
