Turkey denies reports that Russian gas imports will stop

Must read

The Turkish presidency’s Communications Directorate on Tuesday denied claims that a new liquefied natural gas agreement with the United States will end Russian gas imports and trigger an energy crisis.

The denial came from the Center for Countering Disinformation, a unit at the directorate that issues responses to reports it labels false.

The center argued that some media outlets were circulating unfounded claims about a halt to Russian supplies.

It described those reports as groundless.

According to the statement, Turkey receives natural gas through pipelines and LNG terminals and stores fuel at several sites across the country.

The center insisted there is no risk of a shortage for the coming winter.

It noted that natural gas purchased from the Russian Federation continues under long-term contracts between state energy companies from both countries.

Those flows include gas shipped through the TurkStream pipeline under the Black Sea, which supplies both Turkey and parts of southeastern Europe.

The center added that Turkey buys gas and LNG from the United States, Azerbaijan, Iran, Algeria, Oman and Qatar to diversify supply routes and reduce dependence on any single source.

Turkey is one of the largest buyers of Russian gas in Europe and relies heavily on imports to meet almost all of its domestic demand.
