Turkey wins silver at EuroBasket after loss to Germany in final

Germany was crowned FIBA EuroBasket champion Sunday after rallying past Turkey 88-83 in a thrilling final, the TRT Haber reported.

Turkey led for much of the game, but Germany surged in the closing minutes with captain Dennis Schröder scoring the final six points. Schröder, who finished with 16 points and 12 assists, was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

The matchup at Arena Riga featured two previously unbeaten teams. Turkey’s Alperen Şengün was the game’s top scorer with 28 points. Cedi Osman added 23 points, while Shane Larkin had 13 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Adem Bona chipped in 12 points.

Germany overturned a 46-40 halftime deficit, outscoring Turkey 26-21 in the third quarter. Isaac Bonga had 20 points for Germany and Franz Wagner added 18 points and eight rebounds.

The title marked Germany’s second EuroBasket championship. Its first came in 1993. Turkey matched its best-ever result, having last reached the final in 2001.

In the third-place game earlier Sunday, Greece edged Finland 92-89 to win bronze.
