Turkey’s unemployment rate falls to 9.2 percent in August

Turkey’s unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percentage points month-on-month to 9.2 percent in August, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported, citing the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

The number of unemployed fell by 56,000 to 3.2 million in August. The country’s unemployment rate in August 2022 was 9.8 percent.

TurkStat data showed the unemployment rate at 7.5 percent among men and 12.6 percent among women in August.

Meanwhile, the number of employed individuals was slightly up, at 31.6 million, increasing by 1,000 people in the same period. The employment rate stood unchanged in August at 48.4 percent.

TurkStat data also showed the seasonally adjusted measure of labor underutilization rose 0.4 percentage points to 23.0 percent

The labor underutilization measure had largely slid since early 2021 but has edged higher in recent months.
