Turkey currently hosts 3,580,263 Syrians, while 402,011 have returned home, according to official Interior Ministry figures released on Tuesday, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
Military operations in northern Syria since 2016 have also allowed hundreds of thousands of Syrians in Turkey to resettle in their homeland, Ministry spokesman İsmail Çataklı said.
Ankara has been backing armed rebels in Syria against the Bashar al-Assad government since 2011, when a civil war erupted.
