Bulgaria tightens control of border with Turkey over migrant influx fears: report

Must read

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Friday said his country is tightening security along its border with southeastern neighbor Turkey after groups of migrants in Turkey headed toward the frontier, Reuters reported.

“We have data about a lot of crowding … We are tightening maximum control at the border,” Borissov said during a government meeting, adding that he was arranging a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

On Thursday night Turkey said it would no longer close its border gates to refugees who want to go to Europe shortly after the killing of 33 Turkish soldiers in an airstrike in northern Syria.

Turkey, which is already home to around 3.6 million Syrian refugees, fears more people arriving in the country where there is growing popular discontent against their presence.
