Turkey’s foreign trade deficit shrank by 43.5 percent in 2019 to $31.17 billion, down from $55.12 billion in 2018, the country’s statistical authority announced on Friday, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) reported that in 2019 the country’s exports rose by 2.1 percent to $171.5 billion, while imports fell by 9.1 percent to $202.7 billion.
In December Turkey’s exports totaled $14.7 billion, up 6.4 percent on a yearly basis, while the country’s imports rose by 14.9 percent, reaching $19.2 billion.
The foreign trade deficit in December was $4.3 billion, up 57.6 percent over the same month of the previous year.
