İstanbul court prohibits access to Uber in Turkey: report

Must read

An İstanbul Commercial Court of First Instance on Wednesday ruled for the prohibition of online access to global ridesharing company Uber for engaging in “unfair competition” after a lawsuit was filed by an İstanbul taxi drivers association, the pro-government Sabah daily reported.

The court order prohibits access to Uber’s website and smartphone applications, the report said.

Turkish politicians have almost unanimously supported taxi drivers in their fight against Uber.

After the proceedings, the taxi drivers congratulated each other outside the courtroom, giving a military salute to support Turkey’s ongoing military operation into northeastern Syria, according to the report.

Uber has not yet issued a statement on the court ruling.
