Transportation Ministry admits ‘mistake’ in Avrasya Tunnel toll hike announcement

Must read

Turkey’s Ministry of Transportation admitted on Thursday that it had erroneously announced a 38 percent hike in tolls for Istanbul‘s Avrasya (Eurasia) Tunnel, the Diken news website reported.

The announcement published on the tunnel’s website had raised the tolls for automobiles from TL 23.30 ($4.51) to TL 32.10 ($6.21) and for passenger vans from TL 34.90 ($6.75) to TL 48.10 ($9.31).

In a written statement released on its website, the ministry said the tolls would remain as is and that no increases would be imposed.

“A new toll chart that appeared briefly on the Avrasya Tunnel’s web page was removed immediately as it was published in error,” the ministry said.

Opened in December 2016, the Avrasya Tunnel links İstanbul’s European and Asian sides with a view to relieving congestion in the traffic-clogged Turkish mega city.
