Owners of now-defunct Turkish poultry producer arrested over Gülen links

The father and son owners of Şeker Piliç, which was one of Turkey’s major poultry producers prior to its declaration of bankruptcy in 2015, were arrested Tuesday on charges of alleged terrorism due to links to the faith-based Gülen movement.

O.B. and K.B. had been detained in western Bandırma province on Monday along with another local business owner.

A local court subsequently arrested all three on charges of alleged terrorist links as the Gülen movement is considered a terrorist organization by the regime in Turkey.

Turkey has been conducting a crackdown on real or perceived supporters of the faith-based Gülen movement, which the government accuses of orchestrating a failed coup in 2016. The movement denies any involvement, although the government continues to target tens of thousands of its followers on charges of alleged terrorist links.
