Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Wednesday that Turkey is unfortunate in that it has an incompetent main opposition party that is similar to terrorist groups.
Speaking during a meeting of ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) provincial heads at party headquarters in Ankara, Erdoğan targeted the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), saying it aims to capture control of the government even if it means Turkey will lose.
“Turkey’s biggest misfortune is having an incompetent main opposition party. The main opposition party aims to take control of the government at any cost, even if Turkey loses. The language [the CHP uses] is not the normal language an opposition [party] uses. In fact, it is the language of terrorist groups. What is the common ground of the ruling and opposition parties in Germany now? Attacking Turkey, attacking Erdoğan. We are looking at [the actions] of the main opposition here [in Turkey]. It is similar to terrorist groups,” he said.
He also targeted CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu during his speech, saying: “Our country’s biggest misfortune is having a greedy and incompetent main opposition party leader. While he is fighting with me and my party to come to power, he is also cooperating with Turkey’s enemies.”
