Seventeen prisoners who were jailed on charges of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) membership were caught while trying to escape from a prison in Osmaniye, the Habertürk daily reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the prisoners were attempting an escape from the prison by breaking through the walls at night. Thanks to a warning from a guard who heard sounds coming from the ward, the prison alarm was turned on.

The ward was emptied for a thorough search, and a hole leading to the prison yard had been made in the wall. Materials involved in the attempt were seized.

The chief public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the escape attempt.
