The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) announced on Thursday that they expect 1.5 million people to attend a rally in İstanbul’s Maltepe district at the end of a March of Justice launched by CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on June 15 to protest the arrest of a CHP deputy.

It was announced on the 22nd day of the March of Justice that a “Justice Rally” would be held in Maltepe on July 9.

The provincial chairman of the CHP, Cemal Canpolat, informed the press about the rally, to which 11,000 civil society organizations, trade associations and political parties were invited and said measures have been taken to prevent potential provocations.

Kılıçdaroğlu is expected to arrive at the meeting area at 5 p.m. on July 9.

The March of Justice from Ankara to İstanbul was initiated in protest of the arrest of CHP deputy Enis Berberoğlu, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison on June 14 for leaking information for a report on National Intelligence Organization (MİT) trucks transporting weapons to jihadists in Syria.
