PAKURD Chairman Baran: I was exposed to heavy torture during detention

Must read

İbrahim Halil Baran, the chairman of Partiya Kurdistani (PAKURD), has said he was tortured during the 13 days he was in detention, the Grihat news website reported on Saturday.

Baran, who was detained on Jan. 11 and arrested on Jan. 23 for disseminating the propaganda of a terrorist organization and insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was released on April 11 under due process.

“I was exposed to heavy torture during the 13 days of my detention. I have been getting medical and psychological treatment since my release. Our allegations of torture were answered with a decision of non-prosecution. Our appeal to a higher court was also rejected. My lawyers have been considering an application to the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights,” Baran said in social media messages.

Baran said his brother and 16 people linked with PAKURD were also in prison.

Stating that more cases against him were under way and expressing the strong possibility of imprisonment due to the politicized nature of the cases, Baran said, “I do not feel yet strong enough to write about the torture and what I saw in prison.”
