An Aydın court on Friday ruled to release a man who in October had injured deputy chairman of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Bülent Tezcan in a gun attack at a restaurant in the Aegean city of Aydın.
The attacker, identified by his initials as A.S., was the only suspect put in jail among the three who are standing trial for the attack.
He reportedly perpetrated the attack in reaction to the CHP’s position against the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).
The court imposed a travel ban on A.S. as he was released from jail at the third hearing of his trial. A.S. is facing a sentence of from five to 15 years on charges of inflicting injury by use of a gun.
