Five people, four of whom are police officers, who had been detained in connection to the murder of the Russian ambassador to Turkey have been arrested.
A 22-year-old policeman, Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, shot Ambassador Andrei Karlov to death while the ambassador was giving a speech at an art gallery in Ankara on Dec. 19.
The investigation into Karlov’s murder is being conducted jointly by the Turkish and Russian authorities.
As part of an investigation pursued by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, an operation was conducted at the Rüştü Ünsal Police Vocational School of Higher Education in İzmir, as a result of which five people, including four police officers, were detained.
The suspects were arrested after they were referred to a court. The police officers reportedly studied at the Rüştü Ünsal Police Vocational School of Higher Education at the same time as Altıntaş.
