NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will visit Ankara on Thursday to hold talks with Turkish officials, in his first trip to Turkey since a failed coup attempt on July 15.

The NATO chief is expected to show support for the Turkish government, which expressed its resentment over what Ankara says was a lack of strong backing from its allies following the botched coup attempt.

During his visit Stoltenberg will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Defense Minister Fikri Isik in Ankara, a NATO statement said.
