33 military members detained over Gülen links

Must read

Turkish security forces detained 33 military members on Wednesday as part of its post-coup crackdown targeting followers of the Gülen movement, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

In gendarmerie operations in 14 provinces, 19 active-duty officers were detained over Gülen links following the issuance of detention warrants by the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.

The Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday issued detention warrants for 17 military officers over Gülen links. Police raided locations in 11 provinces and detained 14 of the suspects.

Turkish authorities believe the movement orchestrated a coup attempt in 2016, although it denies any involvement.

Some 140,000 public servants have been dismissed and more than 600,000 people investigated on accusations of terrorism since the failed coup.
