A 16‑year‑old opened fire on the Salih İşgören Police Station in the Balçova district of western İzmir province on Monday, killing a high-ranking police inspector and a police officer while wounding two others, officials said.

The suspect was detained at the scene, and an investigation has been launched.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote on X that the attack left Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir and officer Hasan Akın dead. He said officer Ömer Amilağ was seriously injured and officer Murat Dağlı sustained minor wounds.

İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban told Turkish media at the scene that the suspect lived on the same street as the station and was injured while being apprehended.

“The murder suspect is a 16‑year‑old who lives on this street. He has no criminal record or previous arrests for any crime,” he said. Elban added that responders found “plenty of empty shotgun shells” and “many cartridges” and said the weapon was a firearm his father bought 10 years ago. Local outlets described the weapon as a pump‑action shotgun.

Footage published by local media shows a masked individual in a black top and light trousers carrying a gun before entering a building; other clips show the suspect on the pavement receiving medical attention and civilians helping police move him to a van.

Additional video circulating online captures the suspect shouting “Allahu Akbar” while wounded as officers close in. Officials have not indicated a motive.
