Turkey registered 1,024 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, bringing the total number to 209,962, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

According to the chart, the death toll has reached 5,300 with the latest additions.

Over the past several weeks the number of new infections has been fluctuating, although it was on an upward trajectory after an easing of anti-coronavirus measures by the Turkish government as of June 1.

The number of intensive care patients increased by seven to 1,179. It has been rising since June 10, when the figure was 631.

“The upward trend in the number of intensive care patients is coming to an end,” Koca tweeted.

The chart indicated that 2,879 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Turkey conducted 50,103 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 3,832,623.

The chart showed that 190,390 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.

Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
