Dila Kayurga, a local youth branch member of Turkey’s main opposition party, was put under house arrest Wednesday by a court for insulting then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in social media posts dating to 2013, Turkish media reported.

Kayurga, 24, the İzmir representative to the Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) youth branches assembly, was detained on Wednesday morning after a criminal complaint filed by now-President Erdoğan’s lawyer.

Erdoğan through his lawyer has filed criminal complaints against five CHP youth branch members on allegations of insult, the Bianet news website reported.

According to Article 125 of the Turkish Penal Code, insulting state officials is punishable by imprisonment of one year or more.

Last week Eren Yıldırım, another CHP youth branch member in Adana province, was arrested after Erdoğan targeted him.
