The Turkish government has extended coronavirus measures in 30 major cities as well as the non-metropolitan city of Zonguldak for another 15 days as the number of COVID-19 cases had reached 82,000 as of Saturday.

In early April Turkey decided to shut the borders of 31 cities, including İstanbul, to all vehicles, excluding those transporting essential supplies such as food and medical and sanitary products, to contain the disease.

On Saturday the measures were extended for another 15 days.

According to Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, Turkey’s confirmed cases of coronavirus increased by 3,783 to reach 82,329 in the last 24 hours, and 121 more people have died, bringing the death toll to 1,890 as of Saturday.

The first COVID-19 case was officially reported in Turkey on March 11.
