Workers aged 18 to 20 exempted from curfew imposed in Turkey: report

Must read

Workers between the age of 18 and 20 in Turkey will be exempt from a curfew on young people imposed last week to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday, Bloomberg reported.

Civil servants, public sector contractors, private sector employees and people who hold seasonal agricultural jobs in this age group will be exempt from an order that banned people under 20 from leaving their homes, according to a statement on the ministry’s website.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the curfew on Friday as part of package of measures aimed at containing the spread of the virus, which has claimed more than 550 lives and infected 27,000 people across the country.

While Turkey has suspended flights from abroad, banned entries and exits from its largest cities and closed down schools, it has avoided imposing the kind of strict lockdown seen in other parts of the world.
