Turkey says 2 killed in car bomb attack in northeast Syria

Turkey’s Defense Ministry has said a car bomb in a Turkish-controlled area of northeastern Syria has killed two civilians, The Associated Press reported.

In a statement posted on Twitter the ministry said at least 10 other people were injured in the attack in the city of Ras al-Ayn on Thursday.

The attack was the latest in a string of deadly car bombings in northeast Syria since Turkish troops and allied Syrian opposition fighters captured Ras al-Ayn and other areas in October to drive Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militants from its border.

The ministry blamed the attack on the Syrian Kurdish fighters.

Turkey considers the YPG to be terrorists because of their links to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) inside Turkey.

The YPG had, however, partnered with the US against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.
