At least seven people were killed and 10 others were seriously injured in an explosion in Turkey’s southeastern province of Diyarbakır believed to have been perpetrated by the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Diyarbakır Governor’s Office said on Thursday.

The blast occurred in the Kulp district of the province as a vehicle carrying forestry workers was hit by a roadside explosion at 6 p.m., the governor’s office said in a statement.

Medical and gendarmerie teams rushed to the scene to help the victims. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015 after a brief period of reconciliation.
