Turkey closes airspace to Boeing 737 Max aircraft

Must read

Turkey has closed its airspace to all Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 9 type aircraft, according to a statement from the Turkish Transportation and Infrastructure Ministry on Wednesday.

The ministry’s decision came one day after Turkey’s national carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), decided to ground all commercial flights by its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft as of Wednesday until uncertainty over their safety is resolved.

Dozens of nations, including Britain, China and Australia, have grounded the Boeing aircraft after a crash in Ethiopia on Sunday killed 157 people in the second such disaster for the model in five months.

The US Federal Aviation Administration does not plan to ground the jets in the United States but is facing growing pressure to do so.
