Turkish prosecutors issue 43 detention warrants over Gülen links

Must read

Forty-three detention warrants were issued on Thursday as part of a post-coup crackdown targeting followers of the Gülen movement.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday issued detention warrants for 32 people including 12 members of the Turkish Naval Forces on accusations of Gülen links, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

The police detained 30 of those being sought in raids.

Meanwhile in a separate investigation the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued detention warrants for 11 people over alleged ties to the Gülen movement.

The prosecutor accused them of using ByLock, a smartphone application that Turkish officials allege the movement had been using for communication.

Seven of them were detained.

The Turkish government believes the Gülen movement orchestrated a failed coup in 2016, although the movement strongly denies it.

Some 140,000 public servants have been dismissed since the abortive putsch due to alleged Gülen links, and more than 600,000 people have been investigated on allegations of terrorism.
