The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued detention warrants for 19 staff members of Gazi University as part of a crackdown on the faith-based Gülen movement.

According to BBC Turkish service, 16 of those being sought were detained by the police. Nine had previously been dismissed by government decrees, while seven were still working at the university.

The Turkish government has accused the Gülen movement of orchestrating a coup attempt in 2016, although the movement denies any involvement.

Since then the government had dismissed some 140,000 public servants due to their alleged affiliation with the movement and investigated over 600,000 people on accusations of terrorism during a two-year-long state of emergency declared after the abortive coup.
