İnce vows to appoint ambassador to Syria if elected

Republican People’s Party (CHP) presidential candidate Muharrem İnce responded to journalists’ questions on his way to Bolu province on Tuesday, promising to appoint an ambassador to Syria as soon as he takes office, the Cumhuriyet daily reported.

He recently criticized the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) over foreign policy decisions, arguing that Turkey should have an ambassador to Syria.

İnce plans to hold 50 rallies before upcoming elections on June 24.

He was about to cancel rallies in two cities due to a health issue; however, after the CHP candidate list was unveiled, he decided to make an appearance after all in order to prevent rumors that he disapproved of party chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s nominations.

“Ask me the questions that you can ask [President Recep Tayyip] Erdoğan… If you can’t ask him, then don’t ask me,” İnce said.

He was also seen as confident of victory when he said: “Right now, my only concern is that I will take over a disaster after June 24. I have started to work on how to clean up that mess.”

When asked about the possibility that Erdoğan would not accept the results of the election, İnce projected strength by saying, “If I win, let’s see if he steps down or not.”
