Turkey removes directional signs for Trump Towers Mall in Istanbul

In response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Turkey on Friday removed directional signs to Trump Towers Mall in İstanbul, Habertürk reported.

According to the report both the signs in the nearby metro station and the “Trump” part of the name of the underground Trump Passage were removed overnight in the Şişli district, where Trump Towers Mall is situated.

The mall has been on the agenda of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan since Trump declared his candidacy for the US presidential election.

In reference to the shopping mall in İstanbul that uses the Trump trademark in its name, Erdoğan had called on its Turkish owner, the same company that owns the Doğan Media Group, to remove the Trump name in June 2016.

Erdoğan had participated in the opening ceremony of the Trump Towers Mall, but after Islamophobic remarks made by Trump, Erdoğan admitted that he had made a mistake by opening the mall himself.
