One major and one specialized sergeant were killed and one specialized sergeant was wounded in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack in Diyarbakır’s Lice district on Tuesday, CNN Türk reported.
PKK militants attacked a military vehicle with an improvised explosive device as the vehicle was on the move in the countryside from Lice to the rural area of Kulp.
A large-scale operation was launched after the attack.
In the meantime, three militants from the Maoist Communist Party People’s Liberation Army (MKP HKO) were killed by armed drones in the Ovacık district of Tunceli province.
Turkish authorities had conducted direct talks with jailed PKK chief Abdullah Öcalan for several years until a truce in effect collapsed in the summer of 2015. Since then, there have been heavy clashes between the PKK and Turkish security forces.
More than 40,000 people, including 5,500 security force members, have been killed in four decades of fighting between the Turkish state and the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU.
