Curfew declared in 8 villages of Elazığ province

Must read

Turkish authorities on Monday declared a curfew in eight villages located in the Karakoçan district of Elazığ province, going into effect at 5 p.m. that evening.

The Elazığ Governor’s Office issued a statement about an operation in the village of Çan in Karakoçan and said the curfew was declared to protect life and property in the villages of Çan, Karaçan, Kuşbayırı and Sarıhan and in the Kubatlı, Aktoprak, Gölçukuru and Doğançukuru neighborhoods.

A report published in December 2016 by Amnesty International said at least half a million people were displaced in Turkey’s predominantly Kurdish Southeast as a consequence of long-term curfews and crackdowns, which forced residents to flee.
