Turkish woman says she feels pain when twin sister is tortured in prison

Must read

The twin sister of 23-year-old Seda Kaya, who was arrested on terror charges on July 2 of last year, says she has been feeling the pain Kaya suffers when she is tortured in prison.

My love is in there. People used to say that twins feel each other’s pain, but I didn’t believe it. Now I also feel pain in my muscles when my sister is tortured,” Eda Kaya told Turkish media.

Eda protests the imprisonment of her sister, behind bars for alleged membership in the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in front of Istanbul’s Cevahir shopping mall.

None of my protests have lasted more than two hours. I have been detained at every turn,” Eda said.

They [her sister and other inmates] are hogtied before searches of their holding cells. Even though it is illegal, 15 male prison guards raid their cells. They are wearing glove-like equipment that has needles on it. They prick the bodies of my sister and the others,” she maintained.

Many distinguished human rights groups including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch documented incidents of torture and rape in official and unofficial detention centers after Turkey suspended its commitments stemming from the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in the aftermath of a July 15 coup attempt.
