Turkey’s Education Ministry has permanently dismissed a total of 62 teachers due to alleged links to the Gülen movement, according to several Turkish media outlets.

The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that the teachers were working at various state schools in the western province of İzmir and were dismissed as part of a probe launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

In a related development, early on Wednesday, the Ministry of Education suspended 1,980 staff members including teachers as part of a witch-hunt targeting the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of being behind a failed coup attempt on July 15. (Turkey Purge)
