Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has been making phone calls to his Qatari and Russian counterparts to provide evacuation for residents of Aleppo, while a protest took place in front of the Russian Consulate General in İstanbul early on Tuesday morning calling for an end to Russia’s engagement in Syria.

Earlier on Tuesday, Reuters reported that Turkey has also been trying to broker a cease-fire in Aleppo in which thousands of civilians are trapped while the city is under siege.

According to Reuters, a Turkish official said on condition of anonymity that efforts are under way to open a corridor for rebels as well as civilians.

As early as 3 a.m on Tuesday, a group of 100 Turks gathered outside the Russian Consulate chanting “Murderer Russia, get out of Syria.” The group also protested Iran and embattled Syrian president Bashar Al Assad, who has been receiving help from the Russians and the Iranians in its war against the rebels.

Meanwhile, the rebels claimed that a cease-fire had been reached on Tuesday evening, but as of this writing no confirmation had been made.
