Turkish courts imposed travel bans on main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) mayors, a parliamentary question by a CHP deputy revealed.

According to reports in the Turkish media, CHP Antalya deputy Çetin Osman Budak submitted a parliamentary question to be answered by Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu concerning travel bans on CHP mayors Tunç Soyer of İzmir’s Seferihisar district, Levent Piriştina of İzmir’s Buca district and Turgay Genç from Antalya’s Döşemealtı district.

Budak asked Soylu the reasons for prohibiting the three CHP mayors from traveling abroad.

After the recent arrests of nine pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies, including its two leaders, CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu told reporters at a press conference in Ankara on Saturday that investigations are under way against CHP deputies and mayors orchestrated by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

They [AKP government] may even take all of us [into custody]. We will never surrender and will continue our struggle for democracy,” Kılıçdaroğlu said.
