Turkey declared on Friday that it will not recognize the results of parliamentary elections held in Crimea on Sept. 18.
“Turkey continues to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine including Crimea,” said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tanju Bilgiç in response to a question regarding the Russian Federation Duma elections in Crimea.
“The elections that were held last weekend in the Russian Federation are considered from this perspective. In our opinion, the elections in Crimea have no legal validity,” Bilgiç added.
Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in 2014.
