Pro-Kurdish party launches ‘Justice for Everyone’ campaign

Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has kicked off a campaign to raise social awareness about the injustices taking place in the country.

The “Justice for Everyone” campaign, which will run through June, was introduced by the party’s co-chairpersons Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar in the capital city of Ankara on Monday.

“Times are very rare in history when lies, oppression and hypocrisy had so much validity, whereas justice, conscience and morals were so much neglected,” said the campaign announcement, which described Turkey’s number one problem as a lack of justice.

The announcement said it is the right time for everyone to go hand-in-hand and raise their voices against the injustice in the country no matter who the victims are.

As part of the campaign, the party will organize meetings with representatives of civil society organizations and rights unions.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), which has been in power since 2002, is widely criticized for cracking down on non-loyalist citizens and silencing dissent in the country, particularly after a failed coup attempt in 2016 following which it launched a massive crackdown on its opponents under the pretext of an anti-coup fight.

The HDP is among the groups that have suffered the most government pressure as dozens of its politicians are behind bars on politically motivated charges.
