Twenty out of every 100 Israelis who traveled to Turkey in October tested positive for COVID-19, putting Turkey in first place for coronavirus infections among Israeli travelers, according to a report in The Jerusalem Post on Monday.

Out of 988 Israelis returning from Turkey between Oct. 1 and Oct. 28, 197 of them tested positive for coronavirus, according to data from the Israeli Health Ministry.

Bulgaria was ranked second with a 13 percent infection rate, while the US was third with 6 percent and Greece fourth with 3 percent, according to the report.

Turkey saw a record number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 on Sunday as 6,017 new symptomatic patients were documented, according to health ministry data.

The number of daily new cases is now at a higher level than the outbreak’s previous peak in April, with news reports coming from every corner of Turkey about overwhelmed hospitals.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Turkey, the Turkish government has been criticized for hiding the scale of the pandemic by not properly revealing the number of people who have been infected and died of the coronavirus.
