Turkey’s confirmed cases of COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, reached 3,629 with an increase of 1,196 on Thursday, while the death toll jumped to 75 from 59, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted.
“The number of tests [for coronavirus] was 5,035 yesterday. Today it was 7,286,” Koca announced on Twitter, also urging the public to observe the measures taken against the coronavirus outbreak.
The first case of coronavirus in Turkey was confirmed by the minister on March 11.
Experts say the exponential increase in the number of cases poses a great danger to the Turkish public.
First seen in the Chinese city of Wuhan, COVID-19 has spread rapidly around the world, infecting nearly 520,000 people worldwide and killing more than 23,000.
Correction: An earlier version of this story mistakenly said the number of coronavirus cases was 7,286.
